Reparation claims
are ridiculous |
 |
|
Whenever faced with a
ridiculous situation or idea, boxing promoter Don King would reply,
"Only in America." When asked my personal thoughts on the idea
of blacks receiving reparations for the ills of slavery, I could
only mutter, "Only in America."
Only in America can we go from an entire month of
holding blacks to the highest levels of worship for accomplishments
achieved under adverse conditions to the current public cry for help
because some blacks claim to suffer from the effects of slavery.
Each year during the entire month of February, we are
inundated with facts and trivia about successful blacks (and during
this period almost every black in America is successful by just
being black). Stories abound about how countless blacks
refused to personally suffer and overcame the ills of slavery.
Only in America can we have black-only television,
black-only beauty pageants, black-only award shows, black-only
colleges, black-only political groups and many other black-only
enterprises, yet claim blacks suffer from the effects of slavery.
Reparations will be nothing more than a form of black-only welfare.
Only in America can those crying loudest for
reparations arbitrarily decide to place the blame for slavery on
Americans, while forgetting that Africans and Portuguese were the
biggest slave traders. American slave owners were equivalent
to street corner drug peddlers compared to African slave traders.
Former President Bill Clinton gave this silly idea of
reparations a little steam when he publicly acknowledged slavery as
a real "American wrong." Furthering his status as the first
black president, he went so far as to apologize for America.
Well, he didn't apologize for me. No living American, black or
white, had anything to do with slavery.
Every American must do all they can to prevent this
notion from catching on. We have joined hands across America
for many other causes. We have telethons to fight diseases.
We have musical benefits to support victims. It's time we set
aside a day to end this reparations talk.
The damage done to our nation by slavery, The Civil
War, Pearl Harbor, and even Sept. 11, will not compare to the
division and destruction that we will face if reparations are ever
seriously considered. We don't need another "Great Society" of
dependency.
Only in America can someone suffer from the pain
inflicted upon another person 150 years earlier, yet feel nothing
for the teenager in his neighborhood that can't read or hold a job.
Children of fathers who were wrongfully put to death
and innocent people sentenced to prison deserve reparations.
People who had their childhoods destroyed by pedophiles deserve
reparations. Babies entering into this world addicted to drugs
deserve reparations. People who just want something for
nothing, don't.
American businesses that wish to support any
reparations should have to pay a "stupid tax." If they are
stupid enough to support it, they are stupid enough to be taxed.
From every mountain, from every valley, from both
coasts, every able-minded, hard-working American must stand
together, join hands, and look the "reparationists" right in the
eyes as we sing out loud, "Stop whining! Let it go! Get
a job!" |
